Factory Records T shirt
Factory was born in 1978 in response to the rapidly growing music scene in Manchester. In keeping with punk‰ۡó»s DIY ethos, Tony Wilson, a local Television presenter and music lover, threw his life savings into a company that he liked to call ‰ۡÌÝÌáan experiment in art‰ۡó». Wilson recruited producer Martin Hannett and graphic designer Peter Saville to help release recorder by Joy Division, who after the death of lead singer Ian Curtis, formed New Order. By the late eighties, factory was a multi-media empire comprising of bars, shops, offices and the Hacienda nightclub. But even in its perceived heyday at the center of ‰ۡÌÝÌáMadchester‰ۡó» scene, the infrastructure was crumbling, the Hacienda has been hijacked by guns and gangs and coffers were empty, leading to it‰ۡó»s inglorious collapse in 1992. 32 years after it began the story of factory remains both inspiration and a cautionary tale.
