Billy Idol - inspired by a school teacher’s description of him as “idle” - was originally a member of the infamous 'Bromley Contingent' of Sex Pistol fans and first achieved fame as a member of the punk band Generation X. He then embarked on a successful solo career, becoming one of the first MTV stars, with anthemic rock chants such as Rebel Yell, White Wedding, and Dancing With Myself.
