Patti Smith was an influential member of the New York punk movement of the mid 70's and is affectionately referred to as the "Godmother of Punk".

The glorious simplicity of "fuck the clock" was taken from a poem in Smith's 1975 collection Babel and immortalised on a t-shirt she wore whilst touring her seminal debut record Horses.
