Arista Records formed in 1974 to combine several Columbia legacy labels and is most renowned for signing Aretha Franklin in 1980 and Whitney Houston in 1983. The infamous Milli Vanilli scandal in 1989 revealed the act didn’t perform a single note on their album, relying on “studio magic” instead. This resulted in Arista deleting the album from its catalogue, making “Girl You Know It’s True” the largest selling album to be deleted. Made in collaboration with Sony Records.
